Congratulations to the 2025 SPIE Presidential Award for Outstanding Student Chapter recipient! 
The SPIE Student Chapter at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in Tainan, Taiwan, has been selected for this year’s top honor.
SPIE President Peter de Groot recognized the chapter for its impressive year of activity, including 10 outreach events that reached over ten thousand participants. From introducing elementary school students to optoelectronics to designing hands-on science activities for high school girls, the chapter demonstrated exceptional commitment to education and inclusion. 
The Charles University SPIE Student Chapter in Prague, Czech Republic, earned first runner-up honors for hosting OPTO 2024, a major international student conference, and for its work building global connections despite being a small chapter of just 12 members. 
The University of St. Andrews SPIE Student Chapter in Scotland took second runner-up for organizing the SCOT 2024 conference, securing over £29,500 in sponsorships, and creating a welcoming, vibrant community of students.
